Before Your Massage:
1. Prepare for your massage by slowing down before you arrive, if possible. Allow ample time for traffic so that you will not be rushed.

2. Do not consume stimulants including caffeine and sugar before your massage. Not only will these substances make it more difficult for you to relax fully, but they dehydrate the body and can increase pain perception.

3.  Do not consume alcohol or narcotics before your massage.  These substances interfere with sensory perception with can undermine the effects of the massage.

4. Inform your therapist of any injuries, surgeries, accidents, illnesses or traumas you have had and any doctor's recommendations insofar as massage is concerned.

5. Remove watches and/ or jewelry before your session

During Your Massage:
1. For most types of bodywork, it is preferable for the client to be undressed.  However, you are welcome to remain partially or fully dressed, if it will help you feel more comfortable. A sheet will cover you at all times for your modesty, with only the area that is being worked on exposed. For traditional Thai Massage and Shiatsu, you are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that you can move freely in.

2. Communicate with your therapist during the session to maximize your enjoyment of your massage. Be sure to let your therapist know if you prefer:
  • More or less pressure
  • More or less heat (room and table temperature are adjustable and extra blankets are available)
  • A different type of music
  • Conversation or silence (note that if you are someone who tends to "be in your head" a lot, silence is encouraged to facilitate a sense of embodiment.)
3. Allow your breath to be slow and deep during your session. When you breathe fully, your muscles get more oxygen and are able to release tension more easily.

After Your Massage:
1. Massage releases toxins in the body, so it is important to drink plenty of water after your session to help your body flush these toxins from your system.

2. Apply ice (10-15 minutes) to areas that feel sore. This will reduce inflammation.

3. Contact your therapist if you are feeling any pain or discomfort or if any questions come up.

In Between Sessions:
1. Practice postural awareness and breath awareness during the day

2. Simplify/ Prioritize and take plenty of breaks.

3. Stretch and exercise regularly

4. Love Yourself!
